Its not what you do, its that you do.

Go on, its only going to take you 2 minutes to read this awesome post.

Time for some mid-week inspiration, to keep you going till the end.

I heard this the other night, while having a burger at the Royale Eatery in Cape Town (the reason that is important will be discussed in a future blog post), and it actually struck home and I stopped mid mouthful to look at the speaker.

So often we worry about how to do things, the order, prioritise this, clear out these tasks, have only three tasks, find the best method – wasting valuable time when sometimes just doing something would be good enough.

But its also about some much more than just your task list. It’s also, I believe, about being present in your life and actually doing something, rather than focusing on what you do and how that is perceived. “Be somebody, be a doctor” just isn’t always the right thing. Ironically enough the person I was sitting next to, was a lawyer, and I learned later in the evening not entirely convinced of his current path. Very often people can be pushed into doing what’s not really right for them, or worrying about it to much. Or becoming the victims of analysis paralysis in terms of productivity and efficiency.

Its the action orientated version of the cliché “just be”, its now “just do”. Combine that with my favourite line from Tim Ferris “Don’t ask for permission, rather ask for forgiveness afterwards” and you should have a more productive, less stressful week (hopefully).

Comment Idea: Do you ‘read’ it the same way? Or do you have other meanings I might have missed from the statement?

@Marc - thanks for your input. Unfocused meetings are one of my personal pet peeves so I agree with you completely there.

Yup that was one of the major lessons I learnt from my SME. You often don't appreciate how valuable your time is.

Lots of talk about ideas and strategy meetings and not much in the way of execution. This nearly wiped us out - but we were good at hold meetings!

Like Nike says: "Just do it!"

Thanks for the kind words, I got the ball rolling yesterday afternoon, so I will keep you posted with any updates and any possible discounts or beta testing.

I seriously do think you should consider creating some apps for the iPhone. You've got the talent and the skills AND it is a great way to get your name and your business exposed on an international level.

Glad I've put a boot in your backside, I might just take you up on that iPhone app concept.

That is a great idea! This Tuesday is going to be the day I get all my stuff done. No more excuses!

Now, you just need to create an iPhone app that will make me stick to it.

@AdsMitchel - I agree 100% its goes without saying, planning is always a must. But planning can be done in 30-90 secs for a simple day plan, its the action that must dominate not the thinking about it.

@ Quinn - I had a feeling you were procrastinating. I think we should start a day for this kind of thing. I heard a great acronym the other day - GSDT = Get Shit Done Today. I think I'll start a Get Shit Done Tuesday where you have to do everything that has been dragging or reappearing on To Do Lists... sounds like another blog post. Hmm... :)

Just what I needed. Seriously. And so incredibly true.

Today, I am just going to ensure that I do things - no more excuses, no more distractions... just get out there and get it done!

100% agree! Great inspiration and valid points! As Richard Bransons short book says, "screw it, just do it" This phrase is one that all people should try live by! Although they say those who fail to plan, plan to fail. So I say plan a bit, live life, get out there and the lessons one should take away will soon become clear. Thanks Zane
