Time for some mid-week inspiration, to keep you going till the end.
I heard this the other night, while having a burger at the Royale Eatery in Cape Town (the reason that is important will be discussed in a future blog post), and it actually struck home and I stopped mid mouthful to look at the speaker.
So often we worry about how to do things, the order, prioritise this, clear out these tasks, have only three tasks, find the best method – wasting valuable time when sometimes just doing something would be good enough.
But its also about some much more than just your task list. It’s also, I believe, about being present in your life and actually doing something, rather than focusing on what you do and how that is perceived. “Be somebody, be a doctor” just isn’t always the right thing. Ironically enough the person I was sitting next to, was a lawyer, and I learned later in the evening not entirely convinced of his current path. Very often people can be pushed into doing what’s not really right for them, or worrying about it to much. Or becoming the victims of analysis paralysis in terms of productivity and efficiency.
Its the action orientated version of the cliché “just be”, its now “just do”. Combine that with my favourite line from Tim Ferris “Don’t ask for permission, rather ask for forgiveness afterwards” and you should have a more productive, less stressful week (hopefully).
Comment Idea: Do you ‘read’ it the same way? Or do you have other meanings I might have missed from the statement?
@Marc - thanks for your input. Unfocused meetings are one of my personal pet peeves so I agree with you completely there.
